Thermal-Wrap Blanket |
Metal Reflective Insulation |
| ECCS Compatibility |
|
USNRC and NEI testing has shown that MRI has a much lower blockage potential than fibrous insulation. Destructive pressure for Transco metal reflective is 190 psi versus 10 psi for blanket insulation. |
| Heat Loss |
Both systems are highly capable of meeting specified heat loss limits. Generally, the same heat loss provided by 85 mm of Transco Thermal-Wrap blankets can be achieved with approximately 105 mm of Transco MRI. |
| Ease of Installation |
Blanket insulation is lighter and easier to handle, but requires two-piece installation (blankets first, then stainless steel jacketing). |
Transco MRI features one-piece cassette configuration. |
| Durability |
|
Transco MRI is more durable when subjected to walk loads. And when subjected to steam or water spray, the 100% stainless steel configuration is resistant to damage. |
| Cost |
The initial cost of Transco Thermal-Wrap® blankets is generally less than for Transco MRI. Total installed cost for the two systems over the life cycle of the plant is comparable. |
|
| Nuclear Environment |
|
Due to the 100% stainless steel construction of Transco MRI, it is virtually unaffected by the nuclear plant environmental conditions of heat, radiation, chemicals and contaminants. |
